Breaking News: According to an NFL evaluator, Drake Maye “may fall” to the Falcons in the draft…

Depending on how the quarterback market plays out this summer, the Falcons could find themselves in a difficult situation.

Choosing the future strategy would go to Atlanta’s new head coach, whoever won the position. The quarterback position for the Falcons would have needed to be upgraded by Raheem Morris, Bill Belichick, and everyone in between.

It seems that there would be a wide range of possibilities a few months ago. While there were a number of fascinating free agent alternatives that appeared realistic, it was still possible for Baker Mayfield and Kirk Cousins to sign deals with their respective teams.

Justin Fields was a gifted but underachieving alternative available on the trade market, and that option still appears viable. That’s not very likely, though, given his contract, lack of progress, and Terry Fontenot’s decision to pass on him in the 2021 NFL Draft.

However, this is the same franchise that hired Raheem Morris after passing on him for three years. The Falcons should definitely use the same approach with Fields.

With an abundance of first-round picks at their disposal, it appeared the Falcons would be able to move up in the draft and acquire the right to select one of Caleb Williams or Drake Maye by giving up multiple first-round picks to a team like the Chargers or Cardinals, who already had a franchise quarterback. If the other two were gone, worse things may happen: the Falcons could draft Jayden Daniels.

These days, it doesn’t seem plausible that any of that will happen. The Falcons are behind a number of clubs, including the first three draft picks, that are in need of a quarterback. There may be hope even if Fontenot and Morris would have to select from less-than-ideal possibilities if it goes quarterback, quarterback, quarterback.

Moving Along Lance Zierlein of the Sticks podcast shared a conversation he had with an NFL evaluator that might preserve the hopes of Falcons fans.

“Today, I spoke with an NFL player who believes that Drake Maye might be the pick that slips in this selection. The NFL evaluator made a comparison between him and Will Levis, he said to Bucky Brooks and Daniel Jeremiah.

In response, Zierlein stated that he didn’t think it would happen, and I agree with him. Maye is a future superstar who will probably attend Washington or Chicago. But in the unlikely event that he stumbles, the Falcons should be able to catch him. Investing in three first-round picks and a player such as Kyle Pitts or A.J. Terrell ought to spark some discussion.

Jayden Daniels would probably be the one to slide down draft lists. If that’s the case, I still think it would be great if the Falcons traded up to get the current Heisman Trophy winner.

Terry Fontenot will need to exercise creativity because the Falcons aren’t in a great place, which might include making two passes at quarterback this offseason.
