Sad News: Following shoulder surgery, Matthew Poitras of the Boston Bruins will miss the remainder of the regular season…

A severe blow to one of New England’s emerging talents.

Forward Matthew Poitras had a successful procedure on his right shoulder on Wednesday, according to the Boston Bruins, and he will likely miss the remainder of the regular season.

Dr. Peter Asnis, the medical director of the Bruins, reports that Poitras underwent a Latarjet treatment on Wednesday at Massachusetts General Brigham Hospital. He estimates that Poitras will need five months to recuperate.

On January 9, Poitras had to leave the game early due to an injury he sustained when delivering a check during a game against the Arizona Coyotes. Before he was back in the starting lineup on January 20, he missed four games. Poitras participated in three games; the final one he played on January 25 against the Ottawa Senators.

Don Sweeney, general manager, stated in a release that “Matt has been a key part of our team’s success thus far, and he will be missed.” “Matt should have the operation rather than play with an unstable shoulder and risk more damage, according to our medical staff’s suggestion. Everyone concerned agreed that it was the right thing for him to do at this particular moment. Matt is a vital component of our future and is just beginning his Bruins career.

The 2022 second-round selection made a big splash and entered his rookie campaign with a lot of fanfare. Thanks to his skill set and self-assurance, Poitras demonstrated at the young age of 19 that he was talented enough to be on the NHL team. The former star of the Guelph Storm left the Bruins to represent Canada in the World Junior Championships; however, both he and his team were ousted in the quarterfinals.
With five goals and fifteen assists in 33 games, Poitras concludes his rookie campaign with Boston. His reinstatement to the team this season is contingent only upon the Bruins making a deep run in the postseason.

The Bruins (31-10-9) continue to lead both the Eastern Conference and the Atlantic Division, with a five-point advantage over the Florida Panthers.
