Despite the current difficulties, the Bulldogs have a bright prospect in Asa Newell, a 6-foot-9, 205-pound forward who is ranked No. 13 in the class of 2024 and the No. 2 power forward in his class. Newell is optimistic about his potential impact on the team, stating, “I feel like they need me out there.” He also expressed confidence in Coach Mike White’s leadership, adding, “I still feel Coach Mike White is doing a fantastic job, so there’s nothing really to say. I just know when I get there I can help a lot and finish plays for them.”
Although Newell has not visited the campus since committing to Georgia, the coaching staff has been actively involved in his development, attending multiple practices and maintaining close communication with him and his family. Newell’s commitment has contributed to Georgia’s current recruiting class ranking of No. 73, as he is the sole commit in the 2024 class. As one of the highest-rated recruits in the program’s history, Newell is eagerly anticipating his arrival on campus and is impressed by the team’s resilience and player development.
In preparation for his collegiate career, Newell is focused on improving his physicality, aggression, and overall skill set. He aims to become an elite shooter, capable of guarding multiple positions on the court. Newell credits his recent participation in the McDonald’s All American game as a motivating factor, stating, “I feel like I have more pep in my step ever since the McDonald’s All American situation. It put a chip on my shoulder.”
