Breaking: Marko hails ‘very impressive’ RB20 debut: ‘The concept is working’

Red Bull Racing’s new RB20 car made a strong impression on Helmut Marko, the team’s motorsport advisor, during the opening day of pre-season testing in Bahrain. Following their record-breaking championship-winning season in 2023, where Max Verstappen secured his third consecutive title, many expected Red Bull to introduce a mildly evolved version of their dominant RB19 car. However, the Milton Keynes-based team surprised everyone by unveiling a host of unexpected technical innovations for their 2024 challenger.

Verstappen’s impressive pace on the first day of testing in Bahrain suggests that the new car’s concept is working well, according to Marko. He described the performance as “very, very, very impressive,” highlighting the car’s reliability and responsiveness. Despite the inherent risks of not taking a conservative approach to car design, Marko expressed pride in the team’s achievements, especially compared to Mercedes, which faced some issues with their car’s performance.

Marko also noted that Ferrari and McLaren seemed to be facing more problems than Red Bull, and while Mercedes might be faster than they’ve shown, Red Bull can be confident in their own performance. When asked about the possibility of other teams copying Red Bull’s RB20 concept, Marko suggested that it would take time for them to replicate such a design.

Overall, Marko’s comments reflect a sense of optimism and confidence in Red Bull’s new car and its potential to maintain their competitive edge in the upcoming season.
