Michigan Football: Can the Wolverines Secure a Playoff Spot in 2024?

Michigan football, fresh off their national championship win, is already looking ahead to the 2024 season. The playoffs have been revamped to include 12 teams, and fans are eager to see if the Wolverines can make another run.

Michigan’s schedule for 2024 is tough, with three of ESPN’s top four projected teams on the list. This means that for the Wolverines to have a shot at the playoffs, they’ll need to perform exceptionally well. However, this challenging schedule also provides an opportunity for Michigan to build a strong resume.

So, what would it take for Michigan to make the playoffs in 2024?

Based on recent history, a 9-3 or 10-2 record seems to be the cutoff for the top 12 teams. Assuming Michigan handles their lesser opponents, they’ll need to go at least 3-3, preferably 4-2, against Texas, USC, Michigan State, Washington, Oregon, and Ohio State.

The good news is that Michigan has home-field advantage against Texas, USC, Michigan State, and Oregon. If they can secure wins against USC, MSU, and Washington, they’ll be in a good position. However, Texas, Oregon, and Ohio State will likely be tough matchups, and Michigan will need to win at least one of these games to bolster their resume.

Looking at Michigan’s roster, they have a team capable of making the playoffs. They boast possibly the best defense in the country, with standout players in key positions. Offensively, they have a strong offensive line and running game, but questions remain about the passing game.

The 2024 squad could have more star power than the 2023 team, but the biggest question marks are at quarterback and wide receiver. If Michigan can solidify these positions, they’ll be in a strong position to compete for another national championship.
