Texas Rangers and Adolis García Agree to Multi-Year Contract: A Win-Deal of $14M

Adolis García and the Texas Rangers reached an agreement on a $14 million, two-year contract, effectively avoiding a salary arbitration hearing. The deal, potentially worth up to $20.25 million, includes various escalators tied to performance metrics such as plate appearances, All-MLB Team selections, and MVP finishes. General Manager Chris Young expressed satisfaction with resolving the matter ahead of spring training, highlighting García’s importance to the team in recent years.

Under the terms, García will earn a base salary of $4.75 million for the upcoming season, with the potential to reach $9.25 million in 2025. Additional bonuses could increase his earnings by up to $6.25 million, contingent upon factors like plate appearances and MVP rankings. The agreement concludes a period of negotiation after García, the AL Championship Series MVP, and the Rangers initially disagreed on salary figures, leading to arbitration discussions.

The 30-year-old outfielder, known for his offensive prowess and leadership, experienced a breakout season in 2023, setting career highs in home runs and RBIs while playing a pivotal role in the Rangers’ World Series triumph. Despite battling injuries, García’s performance in critical moments, including a Grand Slam in the ALCS and a walkoff home run in Game 1 of the World Series, solidified his place as a key contributor to the team’s success.

Looking ahead, the Rangers aim to build on their achievements in 2023, with García expected to play a central role in their aspirations for the upcoming season. With the contract secured, attention now turns to finalizing other roster details, including potential acquisitions, against the backdrop of a recently approved TV deal. As the team prepares for the challenges ahead, García’s continued presence provides optimism for fans eager to see the Rangers’ continued success on the field.
