Breaking: Three-round 2024 NFL mock draft—Patriots deal for Justin Fields in one of five first-round trades

Once again, quarterbacks are poised to dominate the headlines of the 2024 NFL draft, with notable veteran signal-callers Justin Fields and Russell Wilson expected to make waves alongside incoming prospects. In a three-round mock draft, it’s anticipated that the Chicago Bears will make a significant move, opting to select USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall pick, leading to the departure of Fields. The forecast suggests Fields will be traded to the New England Patriots, who would exchange first-round selections with the Bears alongside a 2024 fourth-round pick and a conditional 2025 pick, reminiscent of the Aaron Rodgers trade between the Packers and Jets the previous year. Additionally, it’s projected that the Denver Broncos will part ways with Wilson, with the veteran likely to sign with Atlanta after his release. However, Wilson’s contract extension and no-trade clause could present obstacles to a trade scenario.

The draft is anticipated to witness five rookie quarterbacks finding new homes within the top 33 selections, contributing to a quarterback carousel of significant proportions.

Furthermore, seven compensatory picks are projected at the end of the third round of this mock draft. The picks are based on teams’ losses of 2023 free agents and projected compensation from teams hiring minority candidates away from the Rams, 49ers, and Buccaneers for head coach and general manager positions.

The draft coverage is set to commence with live coverage of the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine starting February 29 on NFL Network and NFL+.

In the first round, notable selections include the Bears choosing wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., the Broncos picking quarterback Drake Maye, and the Washington Commanders selecting quarterback Jayden Daniels. Several other trades and picks are detailed, presenting a comprehensive overview of the expected draft landscape.

Overall, the 2024 NFL draft is anticipated to be characterized by significant quarterback movements, impactful trades, and strategic selections that could reshape the league’s landscape for the upcoming season.
