Breaking News: Boston Bruins sign forward Justin Brazeau to two-year, two-way contract…

The Boston Bruins have strengthened their wing depth by signing forward Justin Brazeau to a two-year, two-way contract, as announced by the team on Sunday. This marks the 26-year-old’s inaugural National Hockey League contract, extending through the culmination of the 2024-25 season, with a cap hit of $775,000.

Under the terms of the agreement, Brazeau will receive $135,000 while in the minors for the current season, and $165,000 for the following year, with a guaranteed $190,000 for the 2024-25 campaign. With this signing, the Bruins now have 48 players under NHL contract, nearing the maximum of 50 allowable.

For the remainder of this season, Brazeau retains waiver exemption status. However, in the subsequent season, should he return to the Bruins’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Providence Bruins, he will be subject to waivers.

This signing represents a significant milestone for Brazeau, who has spent the initial four-plus years of his professional career on minor league contracts. It may pave the way for his inaugural call-up to the NHL, especially with an open roster spot following Boston’s placement of Oskar Steen on waivers earlier in the day.

Brazeau commenced his professional journey with the ECHL’s Newfoundland Growlers in 2019, following a stellar final season with the North Bay Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League, where he amassed 113 points in 68 games. He subsequently earned a full-time spot with the Toronto Marlies during the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season before joining Providence in the summer of 2021.

Hailing from New Liskeard, Ontario, Brazeau has primarily featured for Providence over the past three seasons, with sporadic appearances for the Maine Mariners of the ECHL during the 2021-22 campaign. After recording 49 points in 67 games with the Bruins last season, Brazeau has continued his strong form this year, tallying 37 points in 49 games.

Any potential announcement regarding Brazeau’s call-up is likely to occur after 2 p.m. ET on Monday, following confirmation of Steen’s waiver status. The Bruins (32-12-11) are set to face the Dallas Stars on Monday afternoon, preceding the waiver deadline.
