Breaking: Jacob Toppin Signs 10-Day Contract With Knicks After Slam Dunk Contest Showing

Jacob Toppin, who was denied a promotion in Indianapolis, found an opportunity in New York. The New York Knicks announced on Thursday that Toppin would be signed to a 10-day contract, following his performance in the Slam Dunk Contest at Lucas Oil Stadium over the weekend. Alongside Toppin, the team also signed DaQuan Jeffries to an equal 10-day deal.

Toppin, who collaborated with his older brother and former Dunk Contest champion Obi, wore the same sneakers that Obi donned in his victorious effort in 2022. Although Toppin did not advance to the second round, many, including teammate Jalen Brunson and fellow Dunk Contest star Aaron Gordon, were impressed by his performance.

As an undrafted rookie out of Rhode Island/Kentucky, Toppin has primarily played at the G League level in Westchester. However, he earned his first significant minutes when injuries and transactions affected the Knicks’ rotation. In the Knicks’ last game in Orlando on Feb. 14, Toppin played 17 minutes and scored 11 points in a 118-100 defeat.

Toppin has been one of Westchester’s most consistent contributors, averaging 21.9 points and 8.5 rebounds in 13 regular-season appearances.
