Ex-Red Sox Slugger Reportedly Turned Down Offer From Giants…

Reportedly, the San Francisco Giants recently secured Jorge Soler with a lucrative three-year, $42 million deal. However, it appears that Soler wasn’t initially their top pick. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Giants extended an offer to J.D. Martinez, a former star player for the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Heyman noted that Martinez, who had a strong season with the Dodgers in 2023, declined the Giants’ offer, hinting that the Texas Rangers might be a potential destination for him. Despite his notable performance last season, Martinez remains without a team as spring training commences.

During his tenure with the Boston Red Sox, Martinez boasted impressive statistics, maintaining a batting average of .292, an on-base percentage of .363, and a slugging percentage of .526 across 637 games. He also showcased his power hitting prowess with 130 home runs, 171 doubles, and 423 RBIs during his five seasons with the team. Notably, Martinez played a key role in the Red Sox’s 2018 World Series victory over the Dodgers, contributing five home runs and solidifying his reputation as a valuable asset to any team.
