‘Worst Call of the Season’ Prompts Savage Rant from Monty Williams

The Detroit Pistons were on the brink of a rare victory when a controversial no-call in the final seconds of the game led to a heartbreaking loss against the New York Knicks. With Detroit holding a one-point lead, Knicks guards Donte DiVincenzo and Jalen Brunson collided with Pistons forward Ausar Thompson, causing a turnover that allowed New York to score the game-winning basket.

Pistons coach Monty Williams was visibly upset after the game, calling the no-call “the absolute worst call of the season.” He expressed frustration with the officiating and the lack of consistency in the league’s response to similar incidents. Williams emphasized that his team had followed the proper channels by contacting the league and submitting video evidence of questionable calls, but the situation had not improved.

“We had a chance to win the game, and a guy dove into Ausur’s legs, and there was a no-call. That’s an abomination. You cannot miss that in an NBA game. Period. And I’m tired of talking about it. I’m tired of my guys asking, ‘What more can we do, Coach?’ That situation is Exhibit A to what we’ve been dealing with all season long, and enough’s enough,” Williams stated.

He continued to express his frustration, stating, “You cannot dive into a guy’s legs in a big-time game like that, and there will be a no-call. It’s ridiculous, and we’re tired of it. We just want a fair game called. Period. And I’ve got nothing else to say. We want a fair game, and that was not fair.”

Williams then abruptly left the media room without taking any questions from reporters.

Crew chief James Williams later admitted in a pool report that a foul should have been called on the play.

This unfortunate turn of events adds to what has already been a challenging season for the Detroit Pistons.
